VISION QUEST: Hip-Hop Intensive (July 17-19)

The Big Picture A three-day hands-on hip-hop intensive with Yukon's own Vision Quest. Over three 90-minute sessions, students will write their own verses, learn to ride a beat with confidence, and build the stage presence to perform their work in front of a live audience. The class concludes Sunday with a showcase concert open to family, friends, and the wider community, featuring student performances and a set from Vision Quest themselves. All backing tracks provided — students just bring themselves, their voices, and their stories.

No experience necessary. Bring a notebook and a pen. All sound equipment and backing tracks provided.

Day 1 — Friday, July 17: Writing the Verse (90 min) The foundation. Yudii and Nick open the class by sharing their own journey as Yukon hip-hop artists, then dig into the craft of lyric writing: finding your voice, telling your story, wordplay and rhyme schemes, punchlines, and structuring a verse. Students will choose from a selection of pre-loaded backing tracks and start writing their own material — the piece they'll perform at Sunday's showcase. Expect a mix of group discussion, writing exercises, and one-on-one feedback from Yudii and Nick.

Day 2 — Saturday, July 18: Flow and Delivery (90 min) The day we get the words off the page and onto the beat. Working with their chosen tracks, students learn how to ride a beat — cadence, pocket, breath control, emphasis, and the difference between rapping at a track and rapping with one. Yudii and Nick will demo, coach, and work individually with students to refine both their verses and their delivery. Students leave with a performance-ready piece and the skills to keep developing it.

Day 3 — Sunday, July 19: Stage Presence and Showcase (90 min class + showcase concert) The final rehearsal and the main event. In the morning class, Vision Quest shares what they've learned from years of live performance: how to command a stage, work a crowd, recover when things go sideways, and bring the energy that separates a good set from a great one. Students run through their pieces with full sound, get final notes, and prepare for the showcase.

Sunday Showcase (following the class) A community-open mini-concert at The Guild Hall featuring student performances of the pieces they wrote and rehearsed over the weekend, plus a headline set from Vision Quest themselves. Family, friends, and community members warmly invited.
