Yukon Summer Music Camp

Stepping Out: Fiddle for Dance

Fiddle music was written to make people dance, and this class brings that connection back to life. Students will learn jigs, reels, and waltzes from the Northern and Métis traditions with a specific focus on how to play for dancers — tempo, groove, breath marks, how to feel the pulse from the dancer's feet instead of the metronome. Wesley will also invite a local caller or dancer in for one or two sessions so students get to play while people actually move to their music!

A joyful, physical, communal way to experience fiddle playing, and the kind of class that often turns into the highlight of the week.
