Orchestration & Arranging for Instrumental Ensembles

How do you take a melody in your head and turn it into something a group of musicians can play? JUNO-nominated composer and arranger Mark Limacher walks you through the craft of orchestration and arranging — how instruments combine, how to voice a chord for three players versus thirteen, how to write parts that real musicians actually want to play. Drawing from his work arranging for ensembles ranging from duos to full orchestras, including the forty-musician sessions behind Caity Gyorgy with Strings, Mark covers practical fundamentals while giving context for how these same principles scale up. You'll leave with tools you can use on your next chart, whether it's for a jazz combo or a string section.
