A re-thought beginner drum kit class taught by Lonnie Powell, whose philosophy is that drumming is just like dancing with your hands. This class uses a mix of practice pads, kick pads, and kits to build real feel, independence, and groove from the ground up. Students will start with body rhythm, hands, and feet before graduating to full kit work, learning the same thing the pros do. Drawing on his training in the Blackley method and decades of playing across jazz, blues, Afro-Cuban, and rock traditions, Lonnie brings a rare depth of approach to first-time drummers. By Friday, students will have real grooves under their hands and the beginnings of genuine independence between hands and feet.

Ages 12+. No experience required. Sticks, pads, and kits provided.
