Yukon Summer Music Camp

Drum Circle: Rhythms of Recovery and Connection (90 min)

Drum circles are a joyful and welcoming way to connect through rhythm. Led by Lonnie Powell, a Whitehorse drumming legend whose approach is shaped by African, Cuban, and Afro-Brazilian traditions, this class explores basic hand drumming rudiments, rhythms from around the world, and the simple truth that everyone, at every age and every experience level, has rhythm in them already. Drawing from his work with recovery communities and wellness practice, Lonnie also weaves in elements of soundbath, breathwork, and vibrational healing — creating a space that nourishes the body as much as it feeds the groove. Expect global rhythms, a bit of history, plenty of laughter, and the kind of full-body musical connection you can only find in a drum circle. Perfect for families, kids, adults, and everyone in between. No experience necessary... just bring your hands, your heartbeat, and your favorite drum if you'd like!
