Yukon Summer Music Camp

Cello Masterclass with Sebastian Ostertag (July 19)

Offsite, held at Trinity Lutheran Church on July 19th.

A rare opportunity to hear and learn from a cellist who has performed with orchestras across Canada, recorded on JUNO and Polaris Prize–nominated albums, and co-founded one of BC's leading summer music programs. In this public masterclass, 3-4 cellists perform prepared pieces and receive in-depth coaching from Sebastian in front of a live audience — technique, interpretation, sound production, and the choices that separate playing the notes from playing the music. Some of the best learning in a masterclass happens in the chairs, not on stage — watching a skilled teacher reshape a performance in real time is an education in itself. We're expecting local semi-professional cellists alongside advanced students, which should make for a thrilling and varied morning of cello playing. Performers and auditors alike are welcome.

Open to cellists of all levels, ages 12+. Performers: bring a prepared piece or movement. Auditors: just come and listen!
